Greetings TV Garth readers! After a long delay, I'm finally looking back at all the over-the-air TV mayhem viewed at my home in Markham, Ontario from October through November 2015! Here are the anchors, anecdotes and antenna reception I saw!
Oct. 4, 2015:
- Buffalo, NY, 2.2 WGRZ2.2 (RF33.2)...Antenna TV ran the classic film Yours, Mine and Ours, starring Lucille Ball and Van Johnson!
- Rochester, NY, 8.1 WROC (RF45)...I thought Flour City was pasta all the drama, but according to Jeff Rusack both sides were still boiling!
It was gr8 to see the fabulous Maureen McGuire!
Sticky Lips BBQ is awesome, and this ad made me think of a pal who loves their “Betty’s Burning Lips” sauce!
Oct. 7, 2015:
- Paris, ON, 6.1 CIII (RF17)...Divalicious Candis Cayne appeared on The Drs to talk about LGBT app Moovz!
Alec Mapa has shown off his Moovz on Some of My Best Friends, Ugly Betty and Half & Half!
Oct. 11, 2015:
- Buffalo, NY, 2.2 WGRZ2.2 (RF33.2)...I wanted Hercules (Lou Ferrigno) to put the Moovz on me! “Hercules! Hercules!” indeed!
Oct. 12, 2015:
- Buffalo, NY, 7.1 WKBW (RF38)...There was a sketchy ad for Pink’s new musical Just Like A Pill the drug Movantik!
Despite mixed reviews, I really enjoyed the reboot of The Muppets!
Oct. 15, 2015:
- Buffalo, NY, 7.1 WKBW (RF38)...The Buffalo Bills were heading to London, with Matt Bove and Joe Buscaglia covering the action!
- Buffalo, NY, 2.1 WGRZ (RF33)...Nobody holds a candle to Kevin O’Neill’s “Celebrate WNY” reports!
Oct. 17, 2015:
- Buffalo, NY, 2.1 WGRZ (RF33)...Entertainment Tonight gave us a look at The Facts of Life cast then and now, and talked about Charlotte Rae’s autobiography!
Oct. 19, 2015:
- Toronto, ON, 9.1 CFTO (RF9)...When politics were looking grim, Justin Trudeau’s campaign celebrated diversity – and he won! (Bonus points for Markham-Stouffville’s Jane Philpott also appearing on screen!)
Oct. 22, 2015:
- Buffalo, NY, 2.1 WGRZ (RF33)...Channel 2 was also tackling the Bills in London with Adam Benigni and Jonah Javad!
Oct. 24, 2015:
- Buffalo, NY, 4.1 WIVB (RF39)...I really liked the Jem & The Holograms live action movie, despite all the online backlash! Stephanie Scott, Aubrey Peeples and the rest of the cast rocked!
When my friends and I went to see it, we actually bumped into the brother of the film’s screenwriter!
Oct. 26, 2015:
- Buffalo, NY, 7.1 WKBW (RF38)...Katy Perry endorsed Hillary Clinton and I really wish the election hadn’t been The One That Got Away!
Oct. 27, 2015:
- Buffalo, NY, 2.1 WGRZ (RF33)...Bernie Sanders added another progressive voice to the election mix, talking about gun control issues that remain unresolved to this day.
- Buffalo, NY, 17.1 WNED (RF43)...I knew Wai Lana Yoga from PBS, but finding her snacks at Wawa during JemCon 2015 tripped me out!
Oct. 31, 2015:
- Buffalo, NY, 49.3 CometTV [WNYO] (RF49.3)...If Jem of Jem & The Holograms was a futuristic, killer cyborg, I imagine this is what she’d look like! (This was also the debut of spacey subchannel Comet on WNYO!)
- Toronto, ON, 5.1 CBLT (RF20)...22 Minutes riffed on Kevin Keller’s marriage to Clay Walker in Archie comics, complete with a Riverdale “interview.”
Nov. 3, 2015:
- Erie, PA, 12.1 WICU (RF12)...WICU and WSEE adopted unified branding as Erie News Now, seen with Jamison Hixenbaugh below!
- Rochester, NY, 8.1 WROC (RF45)...Adam Chodak and Maureen McGuire anchored from News 8’s Local Election Headquarters!
WROC promoted the Share The Warmth campaign!
- Erie, PA, 12.1 WICU (RF12)...Geoff Cornish, Mike Ruzzi and Amanda kept everyone Post-ed on election results!
Nov. 4, 2015:
- Erie, PA, 24.1 WJET (RF24)...Like WROC, Erie also had Local Election Headquarters with Traci Teudhope and Tom DiVecchio delivering results!
- Erie, PA, 12.1 WICU (RF12)...Katie McGraw voted for nicer weather!
Kara Coleman, Mark Soliday and Eva Mastromatteo were three peas in a pod during their discussion on cracking the cliché code!
Nov. 6, 2015:
- Buffalo, NY, 4.1 WIVB (RF39)...Vinita Nair had moved to CBS after prior stints at both ABC and NBC!
Nov. 7, 2015:
- Buffalo, NY, 2.2 WGRZ2.2 (RF33.2)...This episode of Mr. Belvedere dealt with Heather throwing herself at a football jock who shows no interest, and subsequently questions his own sexuality!
Nov. 9, 2015:
- Erie, PA, 12.1 WICU (RF12)...Erie News Now and Subway sponsored The Epilepsy Project!
- Erie, PA, 12.3 WSEE (RF12.3)...Alanis Morissette promoted the 20th anniversary edition of “Jagged Little Pill” on James Corden, who showed off Alanis’ first ever single for good measure!
Nov. 11, 2015:
- Cleveland, OH, 3.1 WKYC (RF17)...I was shocked to see WKYC pop in for a minute or so, since Global’s Paris transmitter usually blocks it!
- Pittsburgh, PA, 4.1 WTAE (RF51)...It’s like thunder, lightning! The way Ray Petelin, Steve Maclaughlin, Ashley Dougherty and Mike Harvey accurately predict the weather is frightening!
As a Matter of Fact there was something in the air that night, the stars were bright – Fernando! (Espuelas on WTAE!)
- Pittsburgh, PA, 22.1 WPNT (RF42)...This was my first time catching WPNT since they changed their call letters (from WPMY) and began branding themselves as “the point!”
- Erie, PA, 12.1 WICU (RF12)...Justin Carter was reporting for Erie News Now! (He later moved to WHAM/WUHF in Rochester!)
- Johnstown, PA, 6.1 WJAC (RF34)...The Insider’s Michael Yo introduced a story about Tamar Braxton!
WJAC promoted their morning newscast with Lindsay Ward!
- Clearfield, PA, 3.1 WPSU (RF15)...My jaw dropped when WPSU came in for the first time since Hamilton’s CHCH moved to RF15 back in 2013!
- Clearfield, PA, 3.2 WPSU Cr (RF15.2)...Like Rick Steves, WPSU’s signal was a long distance traveller!
Nov. 16, 2015:
- Buffalo, NY, 49.1 WNYO (RF49)...WHAM’s forecasters, including Glenn Johnson, provide brief weather updates for sister station WNYO!
Nov. 17, 2015:
- Buffalo, NY, 2.1 WGRZ (RF33)...Master of None’s fabulous Lena Waithe appeared on Last Call with Carson Daly!
Nov. 23, 2015:
- Buffalo, NY, 7.1 WKBW (RF38)...Andy Parker, Ed Drantch, Katie Morse and Autumn Lewandowski were on the weather deck with an amazing mascot behind them!
Nov. 25, 2015:
- Buffalo, NY, 2.1 WGRZ (RF33)...Back in high school when I was closeted and catty, I told a fellow flamboyant drama student, “You remind me of Nathan Lane!” His reply: “Thanks! He’s a great actor!”
Nov. 26, 2015:
- Buffalo, NY, 2.1 WGRZ (RF33)...I was thankful that Al Roker interviewed Superstore’s Ben Feldman and America Ferrera!
I always get a kick out of seeing The Rockettes on Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade!
Nov. 28, 2015:
- Erie, PA, 12.2 WBEP (RF12.2)...I’ve only had Hungry Howie’s once when I was in Erie, but it was tasty and delicious!
- Erie, PA, 12.3 WSEE (RF12.3)...A wonderful triple ID graced the PSA for March For Babies!
Nov. 29, 2015:
- Pittsburgh, PA, 4.1 WTAE (RF51)...Shannon Perrine was on the fence about her latest story!
Jackie Cain is always hunting for the information viewers want!
The crowd went wild 4 Ryan Recker’s Action Sports report!
