Greetings TV Garth readers! After a long delay, I'm finally looking back at all the over-the-air TV mayhem viewed at my home in Markham, Ontario from April 2015! Here are the anchors, anecdotes and antenna reception I saw!
April 2, 2015:
- Detroit, MI, 20.1 WMYD (RF21)...I was happy to see My old Friends from Michigan visiting me!
- Bowling Green, OH, 27.2 Encore [WBGU] (RF27.2)...It was also great seeing an Encore appearance of Bowling Green’s PBS station!
- Toledo, OH, 11.1 WTOL (RF11)...New Channel Alert…Holy Toledo! This was my first full decode of WTOL after catching their PSIP back in September 2014! Love that full on “cast” photo!
Jerry Anderson anchors the longtime CBS affiliate’s evening news!
- Erie, PA, 35.2 WBEP (RF16.2)...Maybe she’s born with it, maybe it’s Judge Mablean!
- Erie, PA, 35.1 WSEE (RF16)...Paul Lukach of the Crime Victim Center of Erie County joined Erie Otters’ Daniel Dekoning and Kyle Pettit to promote an event with NHL star Theo Fleury!
- Erie, PA, 54.1 WQLN (RF50)...WQLN’s new ID had a Fleury of Canadian cities flying by alongside their American counterparts!
- Erie, PA, 12.1 WICU (RF12)...12 News covered the story of Dan and Emma Perritano’s inspiring walk across Pennsylvania’s Route 6!
Mike Ruzzi and Amanda Post anchored the evening’s newscast!
Geoff Cornish was on my radar that night and Jay Puskar was a team player about the whole thing!
I snapped this pic a bit too fast, but it’s supposed to read “Coverage You Can Count On”! Still a fabulous station ID!
April 3, 2015:
- Erie, PA, 24.1 WJET (RF24)...Traci Teudhope talked about autism awareness that morning!
Meanwhile, Tom DiVecchio took peeps down a rabbit hole with his forecast that day!
- Pittsburgh, PA, 11.1 WPXI (RF48)...I immediately wanted to complain in a nasally tone when I saw Jennifer Tomazic’s story about “Dangerous Wine”!
I had nothing to whine about when I saw Joe Arena, though!
- Erie, PA, 12.3 WSEE (RF12.3)...I was happy to SEE Eva Mastromatteo and Katie McGraw!
- Erie, PA, 12.2 WBEP (RF12.2)...Things got Better when JD Roberto popped up on my screen! I just found out he appeared in a film called Strippers! (Unfortunately, he wasn’t one of the dancers.)
- Toledo, OH, 11.1 WTOL (RF11)...Andrew Kinsey and Melissa Andrews anchored that morning’s news! (Also, Andrew totally needs to host a current affairs show called The Kinsey Scale!)
- Fort Wayne, IN, 33.1 WISE (RF18)...New Channel Alert…Charly Butcher was a WISE choice to slice through meaty issues such as Indiana’s awful Religious Freedom bill. (I also found it funny that this floated all the way up to a gay guy in Canada at the peak of the debacle!)
- Detroit, MI, 4.1 WDIV (RF45)...It’s a stretch to get WDIV in the Spring, but I’m glad it worked out! Rhonda Walker rocks!
Evrod Cassimy and Karen Drew viewers to their stories that morning!
- London, ON, 10.1 CFPL (RF10)...Kelda Yuen had the newscast hopping that day!
- Wheatley, ON, 16.1 CHWI (RF16)...Melissa Nakhavoly was reporting for CTV News Windsor!
- Pittsburgh, PA, 4.1 WTAE (RF51)...Steve MacLaughlin showered us with his forecasting prowess!
- Columbus, OH, 10.1 WBNS (RF21)...Jeff Hogan was also reporting on the horrendous Religious Freedom bill that day!
- Pittsburgh, PA, 4.1 WTAE (RF51)...Janelle Hall talked about fraternity suspensions while the crawl underneath mentioned a pig on the loose outside of Burger King! Storytelling coincidence? I think not!
I was waiting for answers on how Kelly Fray always keeps that hair flip so fabulously on point!
- Columbus, OH, 10.1 WBNS (RF21)...Not trying to be too syrupy, but I flipped over this tasty ad for Tee Jaye’s Country Place Restaurants!
- Johnstown, PA, 6.2 MeTV6 [WJAC] (RF34.2)...I had a Ball seeing Lucy on WJAC’s MeTV subchannel!

Jim Burton and Tim Rigby were there for WJAC’s morning update!
April 7, 2015:
- Buffalo, NY, 7.1 WKBW (RF38) and 2.1 WGRZ (RF33)...There was a frenzy when a photo of a Lucille Ball statue in Celeron, NY went viral. Stations even sent reporters like Rachel Elzufon there for live shots!
I got to see the statue in person as part of a Drenched Fur excursion to visit the Lucy-Desi Museum in Jamestown, NY! (First time going there since a 1996 trip with my family!) I actually think she’s kinda sweet!
- Buffalo, NY, 7.1 WKBW (RF38)…Meteorologist Jessica McLaughlin stormed through with her forecast!
I was an Eyewitness to Jessica McLaughlin, Keith Radford, Katie Morse and Nick Filipowski delivering the News that night!
April 14, 2015:

April 18, 2015:

- Rochester, NY, 8.1 WROC (RF45)...Scott Hetsko looked like he was about to say, “That picture! Right underneath me! Check it out NOW!”

- Toronto, ON, 9.1 CFTO (RF9)...CTV’s Andria is always on the Case!
April 25, 2015:

April 27, 2015:
- Buffalo, NY, 7.1 WKBW (RF38)...ABC’s World News Now talked about increasing transgender awareness, including a Time magazine cover story with the fabulous Laverne Cox!

- Buffalo, NY, 7.2 LAFF [WKBW] (RF38.2)...New subchannel Laff debuted with shows like Drew Carey and Ellen, which had their original runs on WKBW!
April 29, 2015:
- Buffalo, NY, 7.3 ESCAPE [WKBW] (RF38.3)...Escape, however, was no Laff-ing matter! This subchannel caters to grittier fare such as Heaven, featuring a stripper experiencing violent premonitions.
April 30, 2015:
- Buffalo, NY, 7.3 ESCAPE [WKBW] (RF38.3)...Jailbird Rock was also hard to Escape, with danger and choreography lurking around every corner! (Seriously…a tense game of volleyball morphed into a dance off!)
Just as I thought, “This looks like The Pussycat Dolls Go To Jail,” the credits rolled and – bam – it was Dolls’ founder Robin Antin playing Jessie!
Stay tuned to TV Garth for more channel chasing chills and thrills!
