Greetings TV Garth readers! After a long delay, I'm finally looking back at all the over-the-air TV mayhem viewed at my home in Markham, Ontario from July through August 2015! Here are the anchors, anecdotes and antenna reception I saw!
July 1, 2015:
- Buffalo, NY, 4.1 WIVB (RF39)...Mark Feuerstein promoted an episode of Royal Pains featuring Nicole Maines, the trans teen who won a landmark case allowing her to use the bathroom of her gender at school!
- Buffalo, NY, 7.1 WKBW (RF38)...Jessie Tyler Ferguson was a guest on Queen Latifah and showed off a pic with his husband Justin Mikita! (And if Justin ever does drag, his name needs to be La Femme Mikita!)
July 2, 2015:
- Buffalo, NY, 7.2 LAFF [WKBW] (RF38.2)...Empty Nest was full of Laffs with Marsha Warfield, Yeardley Smith and Park Overall!
July 3, 2015:
- Utica, NY, 2.1 WKTV (RF29)...This fab station ID was 2 much!
May the fourth be with us as Kathie Lee & Hoda and Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular brought patriotic celebrations to viewers!
July 4, 2015:
- Jamestown, NY, 26.2 WNYB-HD (RF26.2)...TCT joined everyone saluting Lady Liberty that day!
- Cleveland, OH, 61.1 WQHS (RF34)...Univision advertised Al Punto!
July 5, 2015:
- Buffalo, NY, 17.2 Think [WNED] (RF43.2)...The Roadtrip Nation crew met Vienna Mbagaya, founder of The Invisible Neighbors, which “aims to personify the immigrant by telling stories that highlight their roles as stakeholders in their communities.”
July 6, 2015:
- Toronto, ON, 5.1 CBLT (RF20)...Steven and Chris featured Eli Glasner, Jeanne Beker and Andrea Bain giving their Red Carpet Round-Up!
- Rochester, NY, 8.1 WROC (RF45)...It was a hazy shade of Matt Jones on News 8 at Sunrise!
- Utica, NY, 2.1 WKTV (RF29)...Katrina Smith anchored that day!
Billie Jean once said, “Fair is fair!” And Madison County certainly is Invincible when it comes to Summer fun!
Kristen Copeland produces and co-anchors WKTV’s 5pm newscast!
I heart “Mr. Bag” from Checkers/Rally’s!
WKTV advertised the New Hartford Shopping Center!
- Utica, NY, 2.2 WKTVDT2 (RF29.2)...When I first saw Intelligence For Your Life I was overwhelmed by animation, clip art and a general sense of a.d.d. Yet, I love them for introducing me to the term “hangry!”
July 7, 2015:
- Oshawa, ON, 22.0 CHEX-TV2...Corus updated their overnight station slide to include their digital channel assignments! (It seemed to disappear after CHEX and CKWS ended their CBC affiliations.)
CHEX’s Newswatch featured Jaye Makinson and Mike Judson!
July 8, 2015:
- Utica, NY, 2.1 WKTV (RF29)...It’s a jungle out there, but Rachel Murphy navigated us through the Zootopia at hand!
Mike Levin talked about the Utica Comets!
July 9, 2015:
- Syracuse, NY, 3.1 WSTM (RF24)...NBC3 aired a great promo with Matt Mulcahy and Megan Coleman!
July 10, 2015:
- Alliance, OH, 45.1 WNEO (RF45)...After many years, I finally caught a wonderful station ID for Western Reserve PBS!
- Pittsburgh, PA, 11.1 WPXI (RF48)...Jennifer Tomazic came out of her shell and stepped on the gas, reporting from Turtle Creek that day!
Meanwhile, Katherine Amenta dove into trashier topics!
Trisha Pittman, Gordon Loesch, Katherine Amenta and Scott Harbaugh anchored the 11 Morning News!
South Carolina governor Nikki Haley signed a bill to remove the Confederate flag from statehouse grounds!
July 11, 2015:
- Buffalo, NY, 7.1 WKBW (RF38)...Serena Williams won Wimbledon!
- Rochester, NY, 21.2 WXXI-W (RF16.2)...World Channel aired a powerful episode of the documentary series America ReFramed titled “The Perfect Victim.”
July 13, 2015:
- Erie, PA, 12.3 WSEE (RF12.3)…Handsome Brandon Arroyo sailed through his sports report that day!
July 14, 2015:
- Toronto, ON, 5.1 CBLT (RF20)...CBC ditched their morning simulcast of CBC News Network in favour of their Radio One programming, which included Marcia Young’s World Report!
July 15, 2015:
- Rochester, NY, 31.1 WUHF (RF28)...Jennifer Johnson reminded viewers that it was a Good Day in Rochester!
- Rochester, NY, 10.1 WHEC (RF10)…Kevin Williams, Jennifer Mobilia, Scott Kilbury and Justin Granit anchored the evening news!
- Toronto, ON, 5.1 CBLT (RF20)...Ian Hanomansing interviewed Ellie Black, who was competing in the Pan Am Games taking place in Toronto!
July 16, 2015:
- Buffalo, NY, 56.1 WBXZ-LD (RF17)...Charlie’s Angels had their share of Cozi and not so Cozi adventures!
- Rochester, NY, 31.1 WUHF (RF28)...Hannah Welker was live from Camp Aspire that morning!
- Rochester, NY, 10.1 WHEC (RF10)...Berkeley Brean schooled folks with a revealing installment of New York State Exposed!
WHEC’s new reporter Rachel covers all the hottest Spotts!
- Rochester, NY, 8.1 WROC (RF45)...Adam Chodak moved over from WHAM and joined Maureen McGuire for gr8 things to come!
July 19, 2015:
- Toronto, ON, 5.1 CBLT (RF20)...To some it looked shady, but to me the face of CBC looked cool and was enjoying a Summer of fun!
July 23, 2015:
- Rochester, NY, 8.1 WROC (RF45)...News 8 interviewed Law Tarello about the new Photo City Improv & Comedy Club. One of the rare times the Law is a laughing matter!
July 24, 2015:
- Syracuse, NY, 3.1 WSTM (RF24)...Your Town promoted the Skaneateles Town Square!
- Rochester, NY, 13.1 WHAM (RF13)...I’ve loved the WHAM Warm Up since first seeing it back in 2010! Kaylee Wendt, Jennifer Johnson and Kelsie Smith got the morning started!
- Utica, NY, 2.1 WKTV (RF29)...Samantha Wessing delivered temps!
- Buffalo, NY, 2.1 WGRZ (RF33) with John Beard and Maria Genero!
July 27, 2015:
- Toronto, ON, 5.1 CBLT (RF20)...Anne-Marie Mediwake, Dwight Drummond and Jay Scotland were on hand for Toronto at 5!
July 28, 2015:
- Rochester, NY, 31.1 WUHF (RF28)...Jennifer Johnson and Norma Holland sat down for a fun interview!
July 29, 2015:
- Utica, NY, 2.1 WKTV (RF29)...Spencer Davidson, Don Shipman and Adam Musyt anchored that evening!
July 30, 2015:
- Rochester, NY, 8.1 WROC (RF45)...Geico advertised their local office on West Henrietta Road with a bobblehead of WBEE’s Jeremy Newman!
July 31, 2015:
- Buffalo, NY, 4.1 WIVB (RF39)...News 4 interviewed Maelin and Karen Harris for a story about the Lucy-Desi Museum in Jamestown, NY!
I visited the Museum and their fabulous gift shops earlier that year as part of the Drenched Fur festivities! (It was also my first time back since I went there in 1996 with my family!)
The attractions included replicas of the I Love Lucy sets!
I had such a Ball that the group I came with wanted me to speed it up a little! (They almost had to drag me out of the gift shop!)
- Erie, PA, 12.3 WSEE (RF12.3)...The Erie Seawolves were hosting a “Guns & Hoses” softball challenge to benefit NAMI of Erie County!
- Erie, PA, 12.2 WBEP (RF12.2)...Northwest Pennsylvania’s CW advertised some of the grape attractions of the region!
Aug. 1, 2015:
- Erie, PA, 24.1 WJET (RF24)...Good Morning Erie, indeed!
- Erie, PA, 12.2 WBEP (RF12.2)...Erie’s CW definitely gave me some TV to blog about! (I’ve loved this campaign since I saw it back in 2009!)
- Erie, PA, 35.2 WBEP (RF16.2)...Kevin Macdowell talked to Loretta Brandon, author of “Lightkeeper’s Legacy: A Personal History of Presque Isle,” and Jackie Tammaro, the Presque Isle Light Station board of directors’ secretary!
- Springville, NY, 67.1 WBBZ (RF7)...Lark Voorhies visited MeTV to promote Saved By The Bell!
Aug. 2, 2015:
- Erie, PA, 12.1 WICU (RF12)...Erie’s 8 Great Tuesdays included a plethora of local sponsors, including WICU and WSEE!
WICU continued to give us coverage we could count on!
Lisa Adams visited Today’s Dylan Dreyer, who got her start at WICU!
- Buffalo, NY, 2.1 WGRZ (RF33)...Stop! Hammer time! (Patrick Hammer time, that is!)
Aug. 9, 2015:
- Buffalo, NY, 56.1 WBXZ-LD (RF17)...I thought it was neat to see Here’s Lucy on Cozi a few months after seeing a giant promo poster for it at the Lucy-Desi Museum!
The poster announced the event “Lucy Under The Stars” held in Jamestown, NY to promote Here’s Lucy joining Cozi TV’s schedule!
- Erie, PA, 54.1 WQLN (RF50)...PBS Erie aired Ken Burns: The Civil War during one of their pledge drives.
- Erie, PA, 12.1 WICU (RF12)...Lisa Adams anchored Weekends Now!
Aug. 11, 2015:
- Toronto, ON, 5.1 CBLT (RF20)...CBC was showing wheelchair rugby from the Parapan American Games!
I took a stroll through the CBC building that Summer and saw some of their Parapan Am coverage happening live with Scott Russell!
Aug. 15, 2015:
- Rochester, NY, 10.3 WHEC-WX (RF10.3)...Weather or not Josh Kozlowski was in Rochester or Buffalo, his forecasts were hot!
Aug. 16, 2015:
- Erie, PA, 12.1 WICU (RF12)...This 12 News promo towered over the rest!
Brandon Arroyo tackled an interview with the Erie Express!
WICU mesmerized me with with their Grillin’ and Chillin’ promo featuring a hot dog dressed as a chef going for a dip!
- Erie, PA, 12.3 WSEE (RF12.3)...Weekends Now had John Stehlin, Mike Ruzzi and Brandon Arroyo anchoring!
Aug. 18, 2015:
- Toronto, ON, 19.1 TVO (RF19)...Piya Chattopadhyay interviewed Timothy Caulfield about the “cult of celebrity” which seemed ominously prescient as the US presidential race began taking shape.
Aug. 23, 2015:
- Rochester, NY, 8.1 WROC (RF45)...Stacey Pensgen, Scott Hetsko and Matt Jones formed Rochester’s Most Accurate weather team!
- Buffalo, NY, 7.1 WKBW (RF38)...ABC’s handsome Tom Llamas introduced a story about some real life heroes who thwarted an attack on a train heading to Paris!
- Rochester, NY, 31.1 WUHF (RF28)...The Grinder was a wonderfully quirky, hilarious show starring Fred Savage and Rob Lowe!
- Syracuse, NY, 3.3 CNY [WSTM] (RF24.3)...Matt Stevens weathered the storms appearing on his map (which included Belleville, Ontario!)
WSTM’s longtime anchor Laura Hand served up the Weekend’s Best Bets!
- Rochester, NY, 10.3 WHEC-WX (RF10.3)...I still love seeing Toronto included in the temps shown on WHEC!
- Syracuse, NY, 3.3 CNY [WSTM] (RF24.3)...CNY also promoted sister station WTVH’s newscast with Michael Benny!
- Rochester, NY, 10.2 MeTV [WHEC] (RF10.2)...Amanda Ciavarri originally worked for WROC before moving to WHEC!
- Syracuse, NY, 3.3 CNY [WSTM] (RF24.3)...CNY mixed in repeats of NBC3 newscasts alongside weather! Dora Scheidell anchored that evening!
Brett Hall was reporting on the Moyers Corners Fire Department!
Molly Matott told us a lot about the current temperatures!
