Welcome to TV Garth!

Ever since I was a kid, I loved antennas and TV reception. It was always a thrill to hook up an antenna and see what stations I could get, and see if I could pick up anything from a far distance. With the transition to digital broadcasting happening, my love for OTA (over the air) reception came back and this blog will focus on what channels I'm able to receive via antenna from my home just outside of Toronto, Canada. Plus there may be occasional commentaries on shows that I see while adjusting my reception.

Here are some seasonal highlights from various TV stations!

The Stations!

The Shows!

“Do you hear what I hear?” exclaimed ABC World News Now’s Vinita Nair (with co-host Todd Connor.)

“Oh my goodness, it’s Christmas!” Bonnie Hunt added.

Without Rose Nylund, Christmas at St. Olaf seems to be missing something.

Jimmy Fallon had time to host Worst Cooks In America’s Anne Burrell (any relation to Adam?) As well as a great holiday sing-a-long with the Muppets!

Meanwhile, CBC’s Steven and Chris were fashionably seasonal!

The Advertising!

A Dog Named Christmas was this year’s entry in the Hallmark Hall Of Fame series. (Seen on Rochester’s 8-1 WROC.)

This holiday spin on the Airport Plaza Jewelers commercial aired frequently on Buffalo stations this past month! (Seen on 2-1 WGRZ.)

Erie, PA was promoting Cirque Dreams Holidaze as part of the Erie Broadway Series. (Seen on 12-2 WBEP.)

Detroit’s 2-1 WJBK was showing a holiday ad sponsored by something that was “Celebrating 25 years of joy and hope.” But the signal was getting flaky enough to obscure what organization it was. (Best I could make out was that it was an event held Saturday Nov. 21 at Allen Park, MI. College football, maybe?)

Buffalo’s 7-1 WKBW showed the famous Hershey Kiss bells ad during the first major Winter Storm that hit Western New York (hence the school closing banner surrounding the screen.) Side note: Hershey’s kisses are delicious and I’ve been scarfing them down a lot this past month!

Erie’s 12-3 WSEE ran this ad for the Winter Salvation Kit which could be purchased at Valu Home Centers.

Last, but not least, Erie’s 12-1 WICU ran this commercial for Erie First’s House Of Hope: A Christmas Musical!

TV Garth wishes everyone all the best for the current holiday season and the upcoming new year!
