Welcome to TV Garth!

Ever since I was a kid, I loved antennas and TV reception. It was always a thrill to hook up an antenna and see what stations I could get, and see if I could pick up anything from a far distance. With the transition to digital broadcasting happening, my love for OTA (over the air) reception came back and this blog will focus on what channels I'm able to receive via antenna from my home just outside of Toronto, Canada. Plus there may be occasional commentaries on shows that I see while adjusting my reception.

Marvelous Marsha is Tops!

Greetings TV Garth viewers! This post is a gratuitous tribute to my friend Marsha, who recently celebrated her birthday and is now residing across the world in Australia!

Earlier this year (Feb. 2009) we took a one day trip to Buffalo, and it was amazing! I’ve paired moments from our trip with TV related pics!

As soon as we checked into our hotel, I turned on the TV and Marsha & I discovered a new guilty pleasure: RuPaul’s Drag Race. As soon as we saw it we were captivated!

We soon looked for a place to eat, and in our travels we stumbled upon the studios for WGRZ on Delaware Avenue! I took a few pics from outside. (At this point I wasn’t brave enough to try to go into the station as I later would with Detroit NBC affiliate WDIV!) NBC stations, overall, tend to be my favourites.

We soon found warmth and food (along with delicious mojitos) at T.G.I. Friday’s! (The second pic is a T.G.I. Friday’s ad captured on Rochester, NY’s WHEC!)

Since we couldn’t go shopping at the Walden Galleria Mall we bussed it down to a nearby Target on Delaware Ave. This exact location was recently featured on WIVB in a story about Black Friday sales.

After shopping at Target, we also stopped into a Tops Friendly Market which was also located nearby! When we walked up to the store, Marsha and I both started to sing: “Tops never stops, saving you more [pause for disco horns] Tops never stops, look what’s in store!” (We both share nostalgia for the advertising we saw as kids on Buffalo stations in the 1980s. I think that’s probably true of many folks who grew up in Southern Ontario.)

I’ll pause here to tell TV Garth readers that Marsha is an intoxicating spirit that myself and many others miss back in Toronto! She really is Tops, anyway you slice it!

The day we were leaving Buffalo, we planned to have an IHOP lunch before heading home! It was delicious! (The two pics of us at IHOP are followed by a recent ad shown on Erie, PA’s WSEE for their Holiday Hotcakes!)

While riding the Delaware bus, we passed WGRZ’s studios one more time and I took this shot through the window. (The tree sort of obscures the 2 News logo, but you can see the overall view of the area.)

So, in conclusion, TV Garth wishes to remind readers that Marsha is Tops, good times have always been her Target, and I[wish I could]HOP over to Australia to see her!

  1. OMG, I am grinning from ear to ear! Such an awesome and amazingly sweet post!! That was one of the best times in Buffalo I've ever had, from talking about Jem on the bus to Adam 2.0 in the hotel lobby to eating greasy American food.

When I get back from Oz, we totally have to do that road trip to Rochester. I love it, and I love you, talented Diva G!!! xoxo
