Greetings TV Garth readers! Here’s a look back at all the over-the-air TV mayhem viewed at my new home in Markham, Ontario, Canada from July 2017! (I now live on one of the upper floors of a high-rise, which greatly enhances reception!) Stations from Rochester, Syracuse, Utica, Detroit, Erie and Peterborough popped in alongside other surprises! Stay tuned for anchors, anecdotes and antenna reception, oh my!
July 2, 2017:
- Buffalo, NY, 2.1 WGRZ (RF33)...Stars, stripes and peacocks were prevalent in this explosive ad for the Macy’s 4th of July extravaganza!
- Buffalo, NY, 7.3 ESCAPE [WKBW] (RF38)...Drew Barrymore and Sara Gilbert starred in Poison Ivy, a film with swingers, sketchy characters and many rash decisions!
- Buffalo, NY, 2.1 WGRZ (RF33)...Heather Waldman’s latest forecast caused her to hit the roof!
- Sarnia, ON, 29.1 CIII-DT-29 (RF29)...TLC appeared on Entertainment Tonight to promote their first album in 15 years! (Stand outs for me included It’s Sunny, Joy Ride and Scandalous!)
- Detroit, MI, 4.3 Me TV [WDIV] (RF45)...Local 4’s Pet Lovers promo looked like a parrot-y of their usual commercials!
July 3, 2017:
- Detroit, MI, 4.1 WDIV (RF45)...Chevy Drives The Motor City right towards Local 4’s Sports Desk, apparently!
- Ann Arbor, MI, 31.1 ION [WPXD] (RF50)...ION station IDs go by really fast, so I was happy to capture Ann (without an “e”) Arbor on screen!
- Detroit, MI, 4.1 WDIV (RF45)...Brandon Roux, Evrod Cassimy and Jason Carr motored through Local 4 News Today!
- London, ON, 18.1 CICO-DT-18 (RF18)...Sophie Kiwala joined Steve Paikin on The Agenda to discuss something that tix off concert goers!
- Detroit, MI, 4.1 WDIV (RF45)...Local 4 advertised the 25th edition of the free diversity-themed music festival Concert of Colors!
- Kitchener, ON, 28.1 CICO-DT-28 (RF28)...The Agenda dug into some of the complications and contradictions of Canada 150.
Niigaan Sinclair was there to discuss Indigenous views on Canada 150 with Steve Paikin!
- Buffalo, NY, 4.1 WIVB (RF39)...Katie Alexander had a field day with a bubbly Bisons report for Brittni Smallwood and Jordan Williams!
- Toronto, ON, 5.1 CBLT (RF20)...Rosemary Barton introduced a story about the 2017 World Indigenous Nations Games being held in Alberta!
July 4, 2017:
- Kitchener, ON, 28.1 CICO-DT-28 (RF28)...The Agenda’s Nam Kiwanuka discussed Jackie Shane and other parts of Toronto’s Queer history with Rahim Thawer, co-editor of the anthology “Any Other Way”!
- Utica, NY, 2.2 WKTVCBS (RF29)...Who’s your Daddario? Alicia is in this awesome bumper for CBS Utica!
- Utica, NY, 2.1 WKTV (RF29)...Transparency with viewers is clearly an important part of NewsChannel 2!
- Utica, NY, 2.2 WKTVCBS (RF29)...University of Toronto alum Anne-Marie Green anchored the CBS Morning News!
- Utica, NY, 2.1 WKTV (RF29)...Katrina Smith was certainly sporting a different look that day! (It was actually Jason Powles with a case of mistaken chyron-dentity!)
- Utica, NY, 2.4 WKTV-ME (RF29)...Lucy gracefully glided through as Ricky did his best “Glare Warner” on MeTV’s I Love Lucy airing!
- Utica, NY, 2.1 WKTV (RF29)...This junior reporter stole a pizza this customer’s heart promoting CMN’s Miracle Drawing at Holland Farms!
- Syracuse, NY, 3.1 WSTM (RF24)...Michael Brookins was Syr-ious about sunshine during his forecast!
Sparks flew between Jeremy Miller and Lisa Spitz that morning!
Sometimes you just want a hot dog real bad, and Americans were about to scarf down an estimated 150 million of them on Independence Day!
- Utica, NY, 2.1 WKTV (RF29)...NewsChannel 2 is there for you 24/7!
It felt appropriate to see Jill Reale getting photo bombed by the Statue of Liberty during her 4th of July forecast!
Callihan Marshall was just 2 much that day on WKTV!
- Utica, NY, 2.3 WKTV-CW (RF29)...Jim Stasaitis talked to NewsChannel 2 about the challenges facing the Boilermaker that year!
- Syracuse, NY, 3.1 WSTM (RF24)...It was good to see Sheinelle Jones and Craig Melvin Today!
- Toronto, ON, 5.1 CBLT (RF20)...There was a moose on the loose in front of the CBC studios at 250 Front Street West! (I’ve passed by the building many times during various treks downtown!)
- Syracuse, NY, 3.1 WSTM (RF24)...Susan Lucci was dressed to the nines for a Progressive cause!
- Syracuse, NY, 3.2 WSTQ (RF24)...Matt Mulcahy promoted the CW6 News at 10!
- Syracuse, NY, 3.1 WSTM (RF24)...Are you a Metz fan? This Is Chrissy Metz knocking it out the park for Us on Harry!
July 6, 2017:
- Buffalo, NY, 49.1 WNYO (RF49)...Mark McLean of Rochester’s WHAM/WUHF delivered the MyTV Buffalo forecast, sponsored by Canada’s Wonderland!
- Rochester, NY, 31.1 WUHF (RF28)...Scott Hetsko is always tracking formidable fronts in his forecasts for Fox Rochester!
Matt Molloy looked appropriately agape about Ontario Rising!
Jennifer Lee was reporting from the WHAM newsroom on WUHF!
- Rochester, NY, 13.1 WHAM (RF13)...Matt Molloy and Don Alhart anchored 13WHAM News at 11! (I highly recommend checking out Matt’s web show with Scott Hetsko, Live @ 13WHAM!)
Jane Flasch exposed us to her latest report from under her umbrella-ella-ella, eh-eh-eh?
- Rochester, NY, 8.1 WROC (RF45)...Prescott Rossi was sporty in stripes for News 8!
Stacey Pensgen, Adam Chodak, Maureen McGuire and Thad Brown anchored WROC’s News 8 at 11!
- Cleveland, OH, 61.3 GET-TV [WQHS] (RF34)...I loved I Dream of Jeannie…15 Years Later as a kid, so it was neat to Get it on TV again!
- Buffalo, NY, 49.4 GET TV [WNYO] (RF49)...My favourite scene was when Jeannie gets tipsy and her “blinks” cause wacky chaos in a restaurant!
July 7, 2017:
- Syracuse, NY, 3.1 WSTM (RF24)...We all learn a lot from Molly Matott during her NBC 3 weather reports! (I also ADORED her clap back at a viewer who tried to body shame her!)
Today In Central New York’s well branded news open looked tres-mendous!
Laura Hand gave her super sized McPick’s for the Weekend’s Best Bets!
When I went camping at Charleston Lake (near the 1,000 Islands) back in 2010, I was surprised to see a US Price Chopper flyer in the Canadian newspaper I picked up! (Maybe it was worth the drive to Watertown?)
Brandon Roth reversed his initials and got his R & B on!
Justin Page opened a new chapter of his reports on sports!
July 9, 2017:
- Buffalo, NY, 49.1 WNYO (RF49)...Ring of Honor’s Dalton Castle clearly got to the bottom of this situation!
- Erie, PA, 35.1 WSEE (RF16)...The ABSolutely awesome Reed McDonough, Lisa Adams and John Lydic anchored Weekends Now!
- Buffalo, NY, 17.3 KIDs [WNED] (RF43)...Peg + Cat bumped into Albert Einstein and costumed riders in "Another Train Problem," which did not involve any Drops of Jupiter!
Meanwhile, "The Bus Problem" featured a delightful Dolly Parton-esque musical number with chickens!
July 11, 2017:
- Detroit, MI, 4.1 WDIV (RF45)...The humidity was such a Thriller that Paul Gross appeared to break into the video’s choreography!
Priya Mann and Bernie Smilovitz were Local 4 All-Stars that day!
WDIV’s Rhonda Walker and Kim DeGiulio were in fine 4m!
I felt like a gay blade upon viewing Gilette's studly spokesman!
I passed by Cattleman’s in the wee hours of the night during a JemCon road trip back in 2009!
- Erie, PA, 35.1 WSEE (RF16)...Mike Ruzzi, Amanda Post and Chris Carroll were all on hand for Erie News Now!
John Stehlin was on the money with his current temperatures!
Maria Bartiromo, however, was not On The Money! (That isn’t shade, she left in 2013, but WSEE wasn't very Quick about updating their promos!)
Gary Drapcho sailed in with his sports report!
- Midland, ON, 7.1 CIII-DT-7 (RF7)...Swiss Chalet really wanted people to chicken out…with their Great Canadian Summer Fest!
- Peterborough, ON, 12.1 CHEX (RF12)...I was happy to add some CHEX to the mix!
