TV Garth: Reception Reports: 2016 Part 6 (Sept-Oct)

Greetings TV Garth readers! Here’s a look back at all the over-the-air TV mayhem viewed at my home in Markham, Ontario, Canada from September-October 2016! Stay tuned for anchors, anecdotes and antenna reception, oh my!

Sept. 1, 2016:

- Buffalo, NY, 7.1 WKBW (RF38)...Battlebots was a great Summer escape that buzzed through and hammered the competition!

Sept. 3, 2016:

- Erie, PA, 66.1 WFXP (RF22)...This station ID from FOX 66 was Erie-sistible!

- Syracuse, NY, 3.1 WSTM (RF24)...Crown Construction added a royal touch to the golden NBC 3 logo on display!

Sept. 5, 2016:

- Utica, NY, 20.1 WUTR (RF30)...I was an Eyewitness to Mike Hoey’s News update during Good Morning America!

“Two IDs, 1 promo” was not a tawdry viral video! However, it was how I’d describe this ad for Eyewitness News on WUTR and WFXV!

- Rochester, NY, 10.1 WHEC (RF10)...Rebecca Leclair did the local inserts during the Today Show, which I saw live during a station tour back in 2014!

- Rochester, NY, 21.1 WXXI (RF16)...Public Television was celebrating fifty years in Rochester!

- Rochester, NY, 31.1 WUHF (RF28)...Alexis Arnold rocks on FOX!

Sept. 7, 2016:

- Buffalo, NY, 2.1 WGRZ (RF33)...I got to check out Record Theatre’s Amherst location back in 2015 and I loved it! (Sadly, both locations closed down in 2017 after the passing of owner Leonard Silver.)

Sept. 9, 2016:

- Schenectady, NY, 17.1 WMHT (RF34)...New Channel Alert…I was stunned to catch Gwen Ifill on this Albany area PBS affiliate just before traveling there for JemCon 2016!

- Schenectady, NY, 17.3 WMHT-Wo (RF34.3)...Like many PBS stations, WMHT carries the Create and World subchannels!

- Rochester, NY, 10.1 WHEC (RF10)...Lynette Adams, Kevin Williams and Rachel Spotts delivered News10NBC’s evening newscast!

- Rochester, NY, 21.1 WXXI (RF16)...PBS Rochester was looking fabulous at 50!

- Utica, NY, 20.2 WPNY-LP (RF30.2)...I will climb on and ride whatever that handsome Harley-Davidson rep from F.X. Caprara tells me to!

Sept. 11, 2016:

- Buffalo, NY, 7.1 WKBW (RF38)...Erin O’Flaherty became the first openly gay contestant in the Miss America Competition!

Sept. 12, 2016:

- Buffalo, NY, 4.1 WIVB (RF39)...CBS This Morning covered the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture, which opened later that month!

- Rochester, NY, 21.1 WXXI (RF16)...There was a glorious vintage station ID before one of WXXI’s original productions!

Sept. 13, 2016:

- Rochester, NY, 31.1 WUHF (RF28)...The news cycle took on a whole new meaning when Jennifer Johnson interviewed a 72 year old spin instructor at M-Body!

- Utica, NY, 2.1 WKTV (RF29)...Kristen Copeland and Don Shipman did a promo for the 5pm newscast!

Katrina Smith, Jason Powles and Samantha Wessing anchored NewsChannel 2 at Sunrise that morning!

Sept. 19, 2016:

- Cleveland, OH, 61.1 WQHS (RF34)...I felt muy mal after the results of the 2016 election, since it wasn’t the Destino I was hoping for.

- Rochester, NY, 13.2 CW-WHAM (RF13.2)...CW Rochester was Game to promote Craig Ferguson during their station ID bumper!

- Rochester, NY, 13.1 WHAM (RF13)...The fierce Dominique Jackson and handsome Laith Ashley were cast members of Oxygen’s Strut!

There was plenty of Attitude in Laith’s hunky magazine cover!

Whoopi Goldberg executive produced Strut, which gave an intimate View into the lives of transgender models!

Sept. 20, 2016:

- Cleveland, OH, 8.1 WJW (RF8)...Stacey jumped into the Frey with Wayne Dawson that morning!

Melissa Reid was out in the field reporting that day!

This gr8 station logo was quite FOX-y!

Some people enjoy cheddar or mozzarella, but FOX 8 viewers prefer Colby…A.J. Colby!

Kenny Crumpton was Kickin’ It in the morning on WJW!

- Erie, PA, 12.1 WICU (RF12)...Geoff Cornish, Mike Ruzzi, Amanda Post and Katie Gaus anchored Erie News Now that evening!

- Syracuse, NY, 3.1 WSTM (RF24)...Peter Hall was CNY Central’s authority on weather that day!

Sept. 21, 2016:

- Rochester, NY, 13.1 WHAM (RF13)...Whether it was fringe reception or Fringe Festivals, Rochester had me covered!

Station IDs like this make me want to dance around and sing, “WHAM! There It Is!” (Apologies to Tag Team…)

- Rochester, NY, 31.1 WUHF (RF28)...Skip’s Henrietta is happy to meat their customers’ needs, because they’re seasoned pros!

WUHF promoted the Score Stream app with Mike Catalana! (I also saw this ad a lot during the first month of Live @ 13WHAM!)

- Rochester, NY, 10.1 WHEC (RF10)...Rebecca Leclair and Nikki Rudd looked ready to have a serious life chat, all, “Girl, you don’t need anyone treating you like that, okay?”

- Utica, NY, 2.1 WKTV (RF29)...Jill was also keeping it Reale!

- Rochester, NY, 10.3 WHEC-WX (RF10.3)...Weather maps!

Sept. 22, 2016:

- Rochester, NY, 13.1 WHAM (RF13)...After many promos, I finally saw Scott Hetsko on air at his new home alongside Ginny Ryan and Don Alhart!

- Rochester, NY, 8.1 WROC (RF45)...Solina Lewis updated viewers about the State Of New York!

Stacey Pensgen became WROC’s Chief Meteorologist after Scott Hetsko’s departure! She joined Adam Chodak and Maureen McGuire for News 8 at 11!

Sept. 27, 2016:

- Buffalo, NY, 4.1 WIVB (RF39)...The fabulous Brittni Smallwood took over from Teresa Weakley on Wake Up alongside Jordan Williams!

- Buffalo, NY, 2.1 WGRZ (RF33)...John Beard, Melissa Holmes and Patrick all Hammer’ed home the fun camaraderie on Early Daybreak!

- Buffalo, NY, 7.1 WKBW (RF38)...7 ABC featured the fierce trilogy of Katie Morse, Liz Lewin and Paola Suro!

Sept. 30, 2016:

- Buffalo, NY, 4.1 WIVB (RF39)...Awesome Full Frontal host Samantha Bee was a guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert!

Oct. 1, 2016:

- Buffalo, NY, 2.1 WGRZ (RF33)...Heather Ly and Maria Genero were on our side that morning!

I screamed like a queen when I saw this picture of Glen Powell and John Stamos in the shower together!

Oct. 2, 2016:

- Buffalo, NY, 4.1 WIVB (RF39)...Marissa Perlman anchored Sunday Wake Up (which ironically, I watch before going to bed)!

Oct. 3, 2016:

- Toronto, ON, 9.1 CFTO (RF9)...Your Morning featured host Ben Mulroney, who I met during Canadian Idol auditions in 2003!

Oct. 5, 2016:

- Toronto, ON, 5.1 CBLT (RF20)...Juice Boxx delivered The Goods with Jessi Cruickshank, Steven Sabados, Shair Massoud and Andrea Bain! (Later on, I saw her at Glad Day Bookshop’s Night of a 1,000 Madonnas in February 2018!)

Oct. 6, 2016:

- Rochester, NY, 13.1 WHAM (RF13)...Jim Madalinsky anchored 13WHAM News at 11!

- Rochester, NY, 10.1 WHEC (RF10)...Rich Donnelly, Jennifer Mobilia and Berkeley Brean were on deck for News10NBC’s evening broadcast!

- Rochester, NY, 8.1 WROC (RF45)...Viewers continue to inquire with Maureen McGuire!

- Erie, PA, 12.1 WICU (RF12)...It was a pleasant surprise to see an outpouring of support for teachers on strike in Warren County!

Brittany Lauffer, Geoff Cornish, Mike Ruzzi and Amanda Post provided coverage we could count on during Erie News Now!

- Erie, PA, 24.1 WJET (RF24)...Tom DiVecchio should have sang “Where have you bean all my life?” a la Rihanna during the search for Erie’s Best Coffee!

JET 24 and FOX 66 are Erie’s Weather Authority!

Oct. 7, 2016:

- Erie, PA, 12.1 WICU (RF12)...Sunrise brought Kara Coleman, Mark Soliday and David Wolter to viewers that day!

- Jackson, MI, 18.1 WHTV (RF34)...New Channel Alert…I was surprised to see WHTV visit My TV for the first time!

- Detroit, MI, 2.1 WJBK (RF7)...Jay Towers over his morning show competition in the Motor City!

- Detroit, MI, 2.3 Buzzr [WJBK] (RF7.3)...Buzzr carries lots of cool vintage game shows like Press Your Luck and Super Password!

- Detroit, MI, 2.1 WJBK (RF7)...Ryan Ermanni suits FOX 2’s Sports Works!

I love campy commercials!

Amy Andrews awesomely anchors and ably assists WJBK’s newscast!

- London, ON, 10.1 CFPL (RF10)...The Dream Lottery supports hospitals like the Children’s Health Foundation, which I saw during a road trip to London Comic Con in 2015!

Bryan Bicknell and Reta Ismail held down the fort during CFPL’s newscast!

Oct. 9, 2016:

- Buffalo, NY, 7.1 WKBW (RF38)...Anderson Cooper and Martha Raddatz did a great job moderating the Presidential Debate for ABC!

Oct. 10, 2016:

- Erie, PA, 54.2 WQLN-S1 (RF50.2)...WQLN encouraged viewers to “Fund Your Favorites” by pledging support for the station!

- Erie, PA, 12.1 WICU (RF12)...Erie News Now delivered a great triple ID while advertising their “Pick Em” promotion!

Oct. 11, 2016:

- Erie, PA, 12.1 WICU (RF12)...Ayman Mohyeldin and Frances Rivera anchored Early Today on NBC!

John Lydic and Sierra Tufts held court over Erie News Now viewers!

- Buffalo, NY, 7.1 WKBW (RF38)...You should all follow Gio Benitez on Instagram right now! He was named one of the “50 Most Influential LGBTs in Media” by The Advocate in 2017!

Oct. 14, 2016:

- Scranton, PA, 16.1 WNEP (RF50)...New Channel Alert…I Get Weak remembering how WNEP came in only months after I’d seen it during a Poconos road trip! (My pals and I went there to see Belinda Carlisle!)

- Scranton, PA, 16.2 WNEP2 (RF50.2)...Scranton signals are welcome to keep me Company anytime they float by!

- Alliance, OH, 45.4 WNEO-D4 (RF45.4)...Fragancia de Amor filled the air with romance as WNEO’s V-me subchannel drifted through!

Oct. 15, 2016:

- Erie, PA, 54.1 WQLN (RF50)...The PBS Arts Fall Festival lit up the TV with a suitably jazzy, retro-tastic look!

Unfortunately, Holograms were not part of the Gem City Jazz Ensemble!

- Alliance, OH, 45.4 WNEO-D4 (RF45.4)...The New Detectives reminded me of a story series that may or may not have been influenced by a high school crush!

- Kalamazoo, MI, 64.2 WLLA-D2 (RF45.2)...This was my first time seeing MeTV on WLLA!

- Pittsburgh, PA, 11.1 WPXI (RF48)...Scott Harbaugh was on my radar that morning!

WPXI’s “Proud to be from Pittsburgh!” segment had Brittny McGraw introduce viewers to the “Listen, Lucy” website!

- Buffalo, NY, 2.2 WGRZ2-2 (RF33.2)...And listen to Lucy I did, when Lucille Ball appeared on Antenna TV’s airing of Johnny Carson!

- Utica, NY, 20.2 WPNY-LP (RF30.2)...WFXV is hard to catch, so I’m grateful when their station ID shows up on sister station WPNY-LP!

Oct. 20, 2016:

- Utica, NY, 2.1 WKTV (RF29)...I’m With Her, indeed! I thought Hillary Clinton handily won all three Presidential Debates!

WKTV’s Audrey Russo dove into “Decision 2016” with viewers!

Oct. 21, 2016:

- Buffalo, NY, 49.4 Get TV [WNYO] (RF49.4)...The Jeff Foxworthy Show featured hunky Matt Borlenghi as a mechanic! Matt is welcome to look under my hood anytime he wishes!

- Buffalo, NY, 4.1 WIVB (RF39)...Eleanor Holmes Norton and Joy Bryant talked to Stephen Colbert about the series Good Girls Revolt!

Oct. 23, 2016:

- Toronto, ON, 57.1 CITY (RF44)...The talented Rob Norman was looking rather dapper on Sunnyside! Check out a photo of us from our high school days in 1998, along with his Twitter and Facebook! He currently hosts CBC’s Personal Best podcast!

- Buffalo, NY, 2.2 WGRZ2-2 (RF33.2)...Webster recycled an art sculpture made of aluminum cans to get cash – a brazen move that even gave Banksy pause!

Oct. 25, 2016:

- Buffalo, NY, 2.1 WGRZ (RF33)...Lion Babe was the mane attraction during the Citi Concert Series on Today!

Oct. 28, 2016:

- Buffalo, NY, 49.4 Get TV [WNYO] (RF49.4)...Jennifer Lawrence gave us a sneak peek at “Hunger Games: Breakfast Journey” on The Bill Engvall Show!
