Jan. 11 - This was my first time catching Global's Peterborough transmitter (RF27) after they converted to digital. Unfortunately, The Jeff Probst Show was not a Survivor of the 2013 TV season.
Rochester, NY's WXXI (RF16) also popped in with Roadtrip Nation taking a look at the first all female African-American flight crew!
It was unusual enough to get Rochester in January, so I mirrored Don Shipman's expression when Utica, NY's WKTV (RF29) arrived for a few minutes! I even got to see a Winter themed ad for the Cross Country Ski Challenge!
Jan. 13 - Another unusual January catch was Muskoka, ON's CHCH repeater on RF23!
Feb. 3 - My family and I watched "The Big Game" on Buffalo, NY's WIVB (RF39) complete with Jennifer Hudson, a Destiny's Child reunion and uninterrupted American commercials! (This was a few years before the CRTC relaxed rules to allow U.S. ads from the game to appear on Canadian cable.)
March 2 - I definitely did not want this man to be Excused from my television screen! (Seen on Buffalo, NY's WUTV, RF14.)
March 9 - Armed & Dangerous on WGRZ's Antenna TV subchannel (RF33-2 Buffalo, NY) certainly wasn't a drag! John Candy and Eugene Levy were fabulous cavorting in disguise in a sex shop, complete with gay merchandise!
March 9 - I wasn't a grouch about the fabulous Sesame Street ID on Rochester, NY's WXXI (RF16)!
March 10 - The very next day, Mario Lopez teased out the Extra scandalous revelation that Cookie Monster enjoyed vegetables as much as desserts!
March 30 - I was proud to see Toronto's CBLT (RF20) showcase out musicians Tegan & Sara singing and bantering with Mamma Yamma!
April 2 - My jaw dropped when I saw Lindi Ortega on WUTV's Country Network subchannel (RF14-2, Buffalo, NY)!
TV Garth Trivia - I went to school with Lindi and was lucky enough to attend some of her early shows! (I took the pic below back in 2002 at a campus music showcase!) Lindi is fabulous, so check out her website for all of her musical happenings!
April 17 - It isn't every day you see the Golden Age Wonder Woman on TV, so I loved seeing Wonder Women! The Untold Story of American Superheroines on Rochester, NY's WXXI World (RF16-2).
Rochester, NY's WUHF (RF28) ran a promo for WROC's First @ 4 newscast with Scott Hetsko & Matt Molloy! (Years later, the awesome duo reunited for the hilarious, off the cuff web show Live @ 13WHAM!)
April 21 - WROC's Bounce subchannel (RF45-2, Rochester, NY) featured Truth Hall tackling tumultuous social issues, including LGBT themes...
...yet, the real scene stealer was an animated, talking frog in the ad for Mazzola Insurance during the commercial breaks!
Vanessa Herring and Stacey Pensgen were on hand for the Fox First At Ten newscast on Rochester, NY's WUHF (RF28). (Vanessa had previously been part of the WICU news team in Erie, PA!)
Handsome Adam Chodak delivered the news on Rochester, NY's WHAM (RF13) that evening!
April 22 - The revamped Ricki Lake appeared on Buffalo, NY's WKBW (RF38) with an exercise segment reminiscent of one I saw on the Camilla Scott show in 1996! (Scott was being positioned as Canada's answer to Ricki, making this feel kinda meta!)
April 26 - Reading Way is a WXXI original production from the 80s that encouraged kids to use the computer and read classic books like "Farmer Joe's Hot Day."
April 27 - I first encountered Off Beat Cinema on WKBW in the 90s, so it was nostalgic seeing it pop up again on Springville, NY's WBBZ (RF7).
WBBZ also showed a ferocious ad for the retro clothing shop Cats Like Us!
May 2 - There was a promo for a local American Idol contest sponsored by the Henderson car dealership on Rochester, NY's WUHF (RF28) featuring Matt Molloy!
May 3 - The annual Lilac Festival was in full bloom on Rochester, NY's WROC (RF45)! My pal Mr. A and I made our way down there to visit our friends Steve and Rick, take in the Festival and tour both WXXI and WHAM!
May 5 - Erie, PA's WQLN (RF50) wormed their way into my home with a promo for "WQLN Education!"
May 6 - Pittsburgh, PA's WTAE (RF51) made an appearance with a Mayoral Debate and a newscast with Michelle Wright (not to be confused with the Canadian Country singer) and Kelly Frey!
Johnstown, PA's WJAC (RF34) also appeared that morning with Bill Brown, Lindsay Ward and Jim Burton!
Sean Lafferty and the fabulous Jill McCormick visited via Erie, PA's WJET (RF24) that evening!
I also saw Kevin Doran and Maureen McGuire on Rochester's WROC (RF45) that same night!
May 7 - Rochester, NY was clear and beautiful as seen on WHEC's weather subchannel (RF10-3)!
May 9 - Hamilton, ON's CITS (RF36) stunned me by using a "Sin" logo that originates from artist Anton101! The logo has been used very prominently by sex positive clubbing events in Toronto's gay community, so I was curious how CITS stumbled upon it. (And if they even got permission to use it...)
Once in awhile the stars align and Toronto's TVO shuts down their transmitter on RF19 for maintenance, which allows Syracuse, NY's WSYT to visit!
May 10 - A highlight of CBC's Steven & Chris was the "Chris' Angels" segment featuring Cher Jones! She is just as awesome in person as she is on air! Check out the company she founded, Socially Active Training, as well as her Twitter!
May 14 - Buffalo, NY's WIVB was celebrating their 65th Anniversary in 2013! The station's storied history also includes Canada, being the first major signal to reach the Toronto area! Check out my visit to the station as well as a 1949 Eaton's ad using the station to sell TVs to Canadians!)
May 16 - I got to see the fabulous Rosey Edeh via Global's Peterborough transmitter on RF27!
May 20 - This was my first time receiving Peterborough, ON's CHEX (RF12) digitally!
There were some jaw dropping local commercials on CHEX that day!
May 21 - Rochester, NY's WROC (RF45) popped up with an ad for Spunk Fitness! Depending on the gym you go to, there's plenty of spunk to go around!
May 27 - Lisa Spitz and Peter Hall dropped in via Syracuse, NY's WSTM (RF24)!
I also saw Syracuse's WSYR (RF17) with Chris Brandolino, Dan Cummings and Staci-Lyn Honda!
Thad Brown is a real swinger in the ad for WUHF's Rochester Red Wings contest!
May 29 - We close out this recap with Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper discussing "sexiest man alive" Channing Tatum on Buffalo, NY's WIVB (RF39)!
