Greetings TV Garth readers! So far, it has been a very good year for Upstate New York reception, with Rochester, Syracuse and Utica making appearances as early as March! So stay tuned, grab a snack and get ready for a look back at Part 1 of highlights from March 2012!
March 12, 2012
I kinda miss the old WXXI Kids logo, but glad to see it still makes the occasional appearance in station promos. (Seen via Rochester, NY's WXXI, RF16.)
March 14, 2012
At least Rochester's WXXI doesn't mask the fact that they hope to receive lots of donations during their pledge drives!
Nothing compares 2 seeing Sinead O'Connor on Tavis Smiley promoting her awesomely titled new CD "How About I Be Me (And You Be You)?" (Seen via Rochester, NY's WXXI, RF16.)
I also caught Sit & Be Fit's Mary Ann Wilson Voguing in anticipation of Madonna's CD MDNA!
Rochester, NY's WUHF (RF28) popped up with the most amazing sight! A woman's coat has eyes and stalks her, eventually clinging on to her wherever she goes. Surprisingly, it's not an animated horror film, but an ad for Abilify!
The coat calms down, however, and helpfully takes notes at the doctor's office with the woman it was stalking!
I'm always tickled by the ads for Uncle Vic's Auto Sales Outlet with the wonderfully wacky tag line "Uncle Vic loves kids." I'm still trying to figure out what that has to do with cars.
Uncle Vic also appeared in a tax refund themed ad on WUHF...again with children, I kid you not...
Meanwhile, over on Syracuse, NY's WSTM (RF24) there was an Alexander & Catalano commercial with a talking dog! Glad they were able to unleash the canine's talent!
March 15, 2012
Rochester, NY's WROC (RF45) was in with the morning news featuring the Divatastic combo of Tina Shively and Stacey Pensgen!
I also got a tiny pinch of Utica, NY's WKTV (RF29) with Bill Kardas and Don Shipman!
This Cafe was certainly at a Crossroads when vandals left their mark on the restaurant! Maybe they didn't like the pancakes... (Seen via Rochester, NY's WXXI, RF16.)
I didn't know CBC had picked up Cougar Town! I'm kidding folks...but I do adore the flamboyant leopard print top worn by Heather Hiscox on Toronto, ON's CBLT (RF20.)
March 16, 2012
Buffalo, NY's WKBW (RF38) featured a gigantic puppet person to inspire children to get involved in fitness programs. I'm sure plenty of kids will be running when they see this mascot approaching!
I picked up a dash of CNY Flavor on Utica, NY's WKTV (RF29) late at night!
March 17, 2012
Utica, NY's WKTV (RF29) provided me with this delicious ad for Tony's Washington Mills Pizzeria and Sports Bar! Seriously, I'm still drooling over that burger and fries!
March 18, 2012
Canada's Got Talent popped up on Toronto, ON's CITY (RF44) with the Divalicious Measha Brueggergosman looking fierce in the middle of Stephan Moccio and Martin Short.
March 19, 2012
Springville, NY's WBBZ (RF7) featured sketchy women executing some dastardly plot that involved stripping a man of his shirt. I wasn't complaining...
I'm glad that WBBZ still airs This TV programming on their 67-2 subchannel, as I have fond memories of This when it used to be a subchannel on WKBW! (I still think they air some pretty weird movies at times, though...)
I've got to hand it to Campus Wheelworks for getting a spokesman so willing to ham it up in their advertising! (Seen via Springville, NY's WBBZ, RF7.)
March 21, 2012
Buffalo, NY's WGRZ (RF33) had a great slide announcing the Spring Heat that was taking over during the later part of the month!
Indeed, the heat wave ushered in some solid Rochester, NY reception with WROC (RF45) and sports reporters Thad Brown and John Kucko.
Maureen McGuire brought some sass to the evening's news!
Speaking of sass, I'm totally on board with the woman below expressing her joy at being surrounded by buff men! WROC's Bounce subchannel was promoting "Whatever She Wants" as part of their Love On Stage series.
Whatever She Wants is a good old fashioned catfight, apparently.
WROC's awesome meteorologist Scott Hetsko talked about the record heat that was March-ing into many areas that month! (Also check out my recent Rochester Road Trip where I got an amazing tour of WROC from Scott!)
Scott Hetsko is a weather gangsta! That is all...
I'm all 4 WROC's promos for Matt Molloy because he's a gr8 anchor!
New to me was sports reporter Prescott Rossi, who appears to be an enthusiastic addition to the Team You Can Trust!
It was cool to see promos for the March Madness games being played, especially since almost all of Upstate New York was rooting for Syracuse!
Meanwhile, WXXI (RF16) featured a nice promo with the station's General Manager and Executive Vice President Susan Rogers!
March 22, 2012
Syracuse stations began to float in with WSYR-2 (RF17-2) showing off some nice doppler radar!
WSTM's subchannel CNY (RF24-3) also had some cool weather graphics going on!
CW-WHAM (RF13-2) had a great promo declaring "We Own The Night" with their syndicated lineup and Rochester scenery in the background!
I was hopping around with excitement for this tasty Easter ad for Stever's Home Made Candies seen on Rochester, NY's WHAM (RF13.)
At the top of the hour, I captured a great WHAM station ID that announced their 50th Anniversary!
Utica, NY's WKTV (RF29) popped up just in time for the repeat of their 11pm newscast featuring Bill Worden.
Oh deer...WKTV's Lexie O'Connor reported about an awful animal attack that took place in Utica. That's totally the wrong kind of March Madness...
The right kind of March Madness was in Boston, with Gary Liberatore reporting on the games for WKTV!
During the commercial break there was a great promo for NBC's Olympic coverage with a WKTV ID in the bottom corner!
WKTV's Adam Musyt told viewers what many folks already know - the cooler cities are on the Canadian side of the border. That's because we know how to party!
Syracuse, NY's WSTQ (RF24-2) ran an infomercial for the Bill Rapp Superstore featuring WSYR personality Kaylea Nixon!
If you like WROC's Stacey Pensgen, you shoulda put a ring on her. Whoa-oh-oh!
We close this Reception Report with a jaw droppingly awesome station ID for Syracuse, NY's WSTM (RF24.) I LOVED it!
Stay tuned to TV Garth for Part 2 of my March reception frenzy!
Welcome to TV Garth!
Ever since I was a kid, I loved antennas and TV reception. It was always a thrill to hook up an antenna and see what stations I could get, and see if I could pick up anything from a far distance. With the transition to digital broadcasting happening, my love for OTA (over the air) reception came back and this blog will focus on what channels I'm able to receive via antenna from my home just outside of Toronto, Canada. Plus there may be occasional commentaries on shows that I see while adjusting my reception.
