Greetings TV Garth readers! Here’s a look back at all the over-the-air TV mayhem viewed at my new home in Markham, Ontario, Canada from July 2017! (I now live on one of the upper floors of a high-rise, which greatly enhances reception!) Summer sizzled with my first ever Wisconsin reception, the return of Indiana, plus lots of Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York State and more! - Buffalo, NY, 23.2 Bounce [WNLO] (RF32)...Bounce hoped viewers would toon in to Bebe’s Kids!
July 16, 2017:
- Syracuse, NY, 3.1 WSTM (RF24)...Molly Matott, Victoria Carmen and Matt Hauswirth anchored NBC 3 News at 11!
Dr. Kingsley Kabari was taking Fitness to the Maximum in Waterloo! (Couldn’t escape the regimen if you wanted to!)
July 18, 2017:
- Toronto, ON, 57.1 CITY (RF44)...Tammie Sutherland is part of a viewer’s balanced diet on Breakfast Television!
- South Bend, IN, 16.1 WNDU (RF42)...My jaw dropped when South Bend visited for the first time since 2010! (The increased height at my new place was definitely helping out!)
- South Bend, IN, 16.2 Antenna [WNDU] (RF42)...WNDU’s Antenna TV subchannel had a neat station ID “bug” and sidebars!
- South Bend, IN, 46.4 PulseFM [WHME] (RF48)...WHME’s PulseFM subchannel was dropped not too long after I saw it!
- South Bend, IN, 22.2 WSBTFOX (RF22)...FOX Michiana joined WSBT, replacing the SBT2 subchannel I saw back in 2010!
- South Bend, IN, 57.1 WBND (RF34)...New Channel Alert…I was Extra excited to catch the low powered ABC 57 for the first time!
- Kalamazoo, MI, 3.2 WWMT-CW (RF8)...New Channel Alert…WWMT and CW7 were definitely a hot ticket that night!
- Grand Rapids, MI, 8.1 WOOD (RF7)...New Channel Alert…I was also excited to tell all my friends that I finally got WOOD!
- Kalamazoo, MI, 17.1 WXMI (RF30)...New Channel Alert…FOX 17's low powered translator also squeaked in with Darren Cunningham!
July 19, 2017:
- Rochester, NY, 8.1 WROC (RF45)...When I met Thad Brown during a tour of WROC back in 2012, he didn’t have pants on! (He was wearing shorts you filthy minded readers!)
Allison Warren wasn’t sure how to react to that last anecdote…
- Ann Arbor, MI, 31.1 ION [WPXD] (RF50)...Bobby Cannavale was killing his “sexy douchebag” look! (Given that it was Law & Order, his character was probably just killing in general...)
- Detroit, MI, 2.1 WJBK (RF7)...The F Word stood for “finally” getting WJBK from my new location! (VHF signals are generally more difficult to snag!)
- Flint, MI, 16.1 WSMH (RF16)...Stephanie Parkinson magnifies the issues important to viewers on FOX 66 News at 10!
- Saginaw, MI, 25.2 WEYI-CW (RF30)...Summer was hot with stations like CW46 (via WEYI) floating into my neck of the woods!
- Green Bay, WI, 2.2 WBAY-WX (RF23)...New Channel Alert…It might sound cheesy, but I thought my first Wisconsin reception called for some Pomp & circumstance!
I was milking ABC 2’s local Green Bay ads, including Todd Wiese Real Estate, for all they were worth! (Also note that Central Time is displayed on screen!)
- Muskegon, MI, 54.1 WTLJ (RF24)...New Channel Alert…I was ready to shout "Hallelujah" when WTLJ graced me with its presence!
- Cleveland, OH, 8.2 WJW-DT (RF8)...Forget Red Bull! It was Antenna TV Cleveland that gave me Wings that night!
- Akron, OH, 55.1 WBNX (RF30)...I’ve liked Rules of Engagement’s Adhir Kalyan since he starred in CW’s Aliens In America!
- Brighton, ON, 30.1 CKWS-DT-1 (RF30)...New Channel Alert…It felt Supernatural to be seeing Brighton’s super low powered CKWS repeater, which pumps out only 0.938 kW of power!
CKWS also ran an Amazing Race Canada ad featuring Steph & Kristen, the awesomely athletic couple that won season 4 of the show!
- Rochester, NY, 10.1 WHEC (RF10)...I felt enriched when Jim Cramer and News10NBC finally dropped by to visit my new pad! (WHEC is much tougher to catch now, compared to my old house!)
- Rochester, NY, 10.3 WHEC-WX (RF10)...I still love WHEC's subchannel, showing off the Frederick Douglass–Susan B. Anthony Memorial Bridge and weather updates!
- Rochester, NY, 21.1 WXXI (RF16)...While celebrating their 50 years on air, WXXI flashed a clip of Teej Jenkins hosting Assignment: The World!
July 20, 2017:
- Rochester, NY, 8.1 WROC (RF10)...Wakisha Bailey reported for News 8 that morning!
- Syracuse, NY, 3.1 WSTM (RF24)...Peter Hall dropped and gave Lisa Spitz twenty during one of my favourite new segments, "Mow or no"!
- Utica, NY, 2.1 WKTV (RF29)...Katrina Smith, Jason Powles and Jill Reale went 2 town on the important issues that day!
- Syracuse, NY, 5.1 WTVH (RF47)...New Channel Alert…I was flabbergasted to see WTVH (and Matt Stevens) knock out my local CFMT!
- Syracuse, NY, 9.1 WSYR (RF17)...NewsChannel 9 was struggling a bit, but Kate Thornton weathered the storm!
- Syracuse, NY, 3.1 WSTM (RF24)...It was my Syracrush squared, as I got to watch Niko Tamurian on two different stations that morning!
- Syracuse, NY, 5.1 WTVH (RF47)...Niko had all the tight ends covered! (He also knocked it out of the park when he met my pals and I back in 2012!)
5 was alive with Allison Bybee!
Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney encouraged folks to Buy Local!
- Syracuse, NY, 5.3 TBD [WTVH] (RF47)...Julie Zhan and Tetris filled in all the pieces of The QYOU that day!
July 22, 2017:
- Rochester, NY, 21.1 WXXI-K (RF16)...I am SO there anytime Cookie Monster wants to wig out and sass around on Sesame Street!
- Utica, NY, 2.1 WKTV (RF29)...Samantha Wessing and the ferociously attired Callihan Marshall anchored NewsChannel 2 at 11!
I've seen Carl's Furniture advertisements for many years and even passed by during a JemCon road trip in 2010!
- Rochester, NY, 8.1 WROC (RF45)...Stacey Pensgen, Jordan Guerrein and Prescott Rossi were in gr8 spirits!
- Rochester, NY, 21.1 WXXI (RF16)...POV aired the moving documentary "Presenting Princess Shaw" which follows a collaboration between Shaw and YouTube artist Kutiman!
July 23, 2017:
- Rochester, NY, 31.1 WUHF (RF28)...I didn't need to be on Facebook to like this FOX Rochester station ID!
- Syracuse, NY, 3.2 WSTQ (RF24)...CNY Central's Wayne Mahar and Billy Whittaker's Cars & Trux teamed up to "Pack the Back" with school supplies!
July 25, 2017:
- Detroit, MI, 4.1 WDIV (RF45)...The fabulous Amber Ruffin and Jenny Hagel joined Seth Meyers for the hilarious "Jokes Seth Can’t Tell"!
Ben Bailey was ready to grab the forecast with both hands, alongside WDIV's 4midable Devin Scillian and Kimberly Gill!
- Saginaw, MI, 25.1 WEYI (RF30)...Dan Dan The Mattress Man won my heart by featuring a dancing bed in their ads!
July 26, 2017:
- Saginaw, MI, 25.1 WEYI (RF30)...I'm all aboat Ahmad Bajjey's splashy forecast!
Kristen Aguirre and Mike Woolfolk led the WEYI newscast that morning!
Courtney Wheaton was reporting live for NBC 25!
In defense of NBC 25, their Urban Tactics deal was a cut above the rest!
His & Hers Fine Cars clearly offered up Super specials with invincible savings!
Let's dish about how deep and delicious Happy's Pizza looks!
WEYI stormed in with this thunderous ID featuring Nick Russo, Leslie Toldo, Ahmad Bajjey and Jamie Kagol!
- Dayton, OH, 45.1 WRGT (RF30)...It Behrs repeating that FOX 45 is a rare-ish catch for me!
- Toledo, OH, 30.1 WGTE (RF29)...Holy Toledo! It was a beautiful day in my neighbourhood to catch this Ohio PBS station!
- Dayton, OH, 22.1 WKEF (RF18)...Anchor Deborah Linz talked about the Artemis Center on ABC 22.
WKEF also gave me a great triple play ID with ABC 22, FOX 45 and MyTV Dayton! (Their building also matches their channel numbers!)
- Columbus, OH, 10.1 WBNS (RF21)...Jet's Pizza rocketed onto my screen! (There's an adorable plush doll of their mascot that now grabs big bucks on eBay!)
- Columbus, OH, 10.2 Decades [WBNS] (RF21)...Digital subchannels are awesome for bringing Decades of entertainment to viewers!
- Columbus, OH, 6.1 WSYX (RF48)...New Channel Alert...It was a Harry situation when WSYX came in!
- Chillicothe, OH, 53.1 WWHO (RF46)...New Channel Alert...Who? WWHO from Chillicothe, that's WHO!
- Akron, OH, 49.3 WEAO-D3 (RF50)...MHz Worldview was giving us the business via Western Reserve PBS!
