Greetings TV Garth readers! Here’s a look back at all the over-the-air TV mayhem viewed at my new home in Markham, Ontario, Canada from March-April 2017! (I now live on one of the upper floors of a high-rise, which greatly enhances reception!) Detroit and Rochester helped usher in Spring, alongside plenty of Buffalove! Stay tuned for anchors, anecdotes and antenna reception, oh my!
March 5, 2017:
- Buffalo, NY, 4.1 WIVB (RF39)...Marissa Perlman slam dunked her report on March Madness, which was spelled out in a rather D.A.R.E.-ing font!
- Rochester, NY, 31.4 TBD [WUHF] (RF28)...TBD was a new diginet showing viral videos and other “outside of the box” content…er…except maybe the clip below.
- Rochester, NY, 21.4 WXXI-K (RF16)...The hair was big but the trains were bigger as Odd Squad sped through GO Transit’s Union Station in Toronto for a retro flashback!
March 6, 2017:
- Buffalo, NY, 2.1 WGRZ (RF33)...In addition to road reports, Carl Lam also traffics in the occasional weather forecast for Channel 2!
March 7, 2017:
- Buffalo, NY, 7.1 WKBW (RF38)...Nightline talked to RuPaul about the upcoming season of Drag Race and showed footage of DragCon!
March 8, 2017:
- Buffalo, NY, 2.1 WGRZ (RF33)...Kevin O’Neill was talking to Pete Gallivan and Melissa Holmes from the Marilla Country Store that day!
March 10, 2017:
- Buffalo, NY, 2.1 WGRZ (RF33)...Adam Benigni was all smiles, but my facial expression matched Maryalice Demler’s in regard to the Winter chill!
March 12, 2017:
- Buffalo, NY, 2.2 WGRZ2-2 (RF33)...Antenna TV was celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Three’s Company, complete with a new cast interview!
March 13, 2017:
- Buffalo, NY, 7.1 WKBW (RF38)...Jimmy Kimmel Live featured The Go-Go’s and OK Go on Mashup Monday as “OK Go-Go’s”! (I was lucky enough to see the Toronto stop of the Go-Go’s Farewell Tour in 2016!)
March 14, 2017:
- Buffalo, NY, 7.1 WKBW (RF38)...Thuy Lan Nguyen looked Winterlicious delivering her frosty findings to Liz Lewin and Ed Drantch!
- Buffalo, NY, 4.1 WIVB (RF39)...Jacquie Walker and Don Postles also stormed in with the latest on Winter woes in Western New York!
March 15, 2017:
- Buffalo, NY, 49.4 GET TV [WNYO] (RF49)...The former Zack Morris (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) and future Hermione Lodge (Marisol Nichols) took romance to the Max in The Princess and The Marine!
- Buffalo, NY, 2.1 WGRZ (RF33)...I’m Maddow about Rachel!
- Paris, ON, 6.1 CIII (RF17)...Roz Weston interviewed Big Brother Canada host Arisa Cox on ET Canada!
Rick Campanelli (aka MuchMusic’s “Rick The Temp”) was part of Entertainment Tonight Canada for 12 years before leaving in July 2017. (My former co-worker Robert got a shot of Rick back in 2005 when he was reporting from Markville Mall!)
March 17, 2017:
- Rochester, NY, 8.1 WROC (RF45)...Spring’s usually around the corner when Rochester peeps in, and WROC was eggs-actly on time with a Sleep Cheap ad!
Just Hold On…I’m standing on the edge looking at the stars (Louis Tomlinson and Steve Aoki) being interviewed by James Corden!
It was gr8 to see Moose, but I was disappointed that Kevin Keller and Midge were nowhere to be found in this Rochester Americans promo!
- Buffalo, NY, 2.1 WGRZ (RF33)...Don’t Cha wish you had Roz “The Diva” Mays around to show you some moves? Mays gave ex-Pussycat Doll Ashley Roberts her 1st Look at some empowering pole dancing!

March 19, 2017:
- Detroit, MI, 4.2 This TV [WDIV] (RF45)...Johnny 5 was ready to DeBarge into our hearts once again via Short Circuit 2!
- Detroit, MI, 4.3 Me TV [WDIV] (RF45)...The Carpet Guys were Shamrockin’ my world with Joe Zago’s St. Patrick’s Day festivities!
Henry Winkler was also rockin’ my world on Happy Days! (Side note: one of my University crushes was allegedly called “The Fonz” back in the day!)
- Hamilton, ON, 11.1 CHCH (RF15)...60 Minutes did a story about Sesame Street introducing a muppet with autism named Julia!
- Paris, ON, 6.1 CIII (RF17)...Mike Arsenault and Angie Seth were a Global sensation that evening!
- Toronto, ON, 57.1 CITY (RF44)...I don’t give a puck what people say…Adrian Ghobrial’s killer smile always scores a goal with me!
- Buffalo, NY, 49.4 GET TV [WNYO] (RF49)...It was a miracle on Merv Griffin’s street as Natalie Wood, Lucille Ball, James Brolin and Michele Lee all came by for a chat! There was even a brief discussion about Hollywood sexism and praise for Lucille’s pioneering role as a studio executive!
- Buffalo, NY, 2.1 WGRZ (RF33)...I screamed “YES! YES! YES!” a la Meg Ryan to the chyron under Yamiche Alcindor on Meet The Press!

- Buffalo, NY, 7.1 WKBW (RF38)...I heart this promo for Channel 7’s annual Variety Kids Telethon with Ashley Rowe and Jeff Russo!

Josh Reed bounced in with WIVB’s Bracket Challenge for March Madness!

Whoever came up with “The Next Einstein” contest is a genius! Scott Lightfoot travelled all the way to MaRS for his report!

- Facebook Bonus (Rebecca Leclair)…I was stunned to see WHEC’s Rebecca Leclair post one of my favourite TV Garth moments on her Facebook page! (Unfortunately, she left the station later in 2017.) Check out my tour of WHEC with Leclair from 2014! She is fabulous!

- Buffalo, NY, 23.1 WNLO (RF32)...Tom Martin, Josh Reed and Jim’s Steakout wanted viewers to meat the athletes that sizzled that week!
